A woman and her common-law husband who beat a man, who was found hiding in the couple’s D’Urban Street, Georgetown home after being invited by the couple’s 15-year-old daughter, were taken before the court for unlawful and malicious wounding.Kerwin James, 32, and his common-law wife Lusha Adams appeared before a city Magistrate on Monday and denied the allegations that were made out against them.It is alleged that the couple, Adams and James unlawfully and maliciously wounded 21-year-old Mario Bruce with intent to maim, disfigure and to cause actual bodily harm to Bruce on August 22, 2018 at D’Urban Street, Georgetown. The Police prosecutor is contending that on August 22, 2018, the defendants left their 15-year-old daughter at home alone when she allegedly invited the 21-year-old with whom she allegedly shared a relationship with, over to the house.Upon returning home, Bruce was found in the upper flat of the house and was allegedly dealt a sound thrashing by the teen’s parents who said they thought he was a thief.Defence attorney for the couple, in an application for bail, told the court that when his clients returned home, the man was hiding in a bedroom and upon seeing them, he attempted to run. It was at that time he was caught and questioned by the girl’s mother and step-father about his presence in their home.Bruce later went to the Police and made a report and the couple was arrested. It was unclear why the charges were instituted almost two months later. They were each released on $50,000 bail. The case will continue on November 12.
